2026 Dental

Valdosta City Schools is pleased to offer new dental plan options insured by MetLife for 2026.  The new MetLife dental plans offer a comparable provider network, added plan enhancements, and lower monthly premiums than the current dental plans.

The Network plan has lower payroll deductions, but you are highly encouraged to use in-network dentists with this option.  If you go out-of-network, you will likely incur significantly higher out-of-pocket costs, depending on your dentist’s total charge.

With the Freedom plan, you will still incur higher out-of-pocket costs if you obtain services from out-of-network dentists, but the out-of-network reimbursement is higher than the Network Plan.  If you are not using in-network dentists, this is the appropriate plan option for you to minimize your dental plan costs at the time of service.

Access www.metlife.com/dental and select the PDP Plus Network to locate in-network dentists.

Network vs Freedom Plan

The Network Plan offers lower payroll deductions, making it a budget-friendly option. However, to keep your dental care costs manageable, you must use network dentists, as choosing out-of-network providers can result in significantly higher expenses.

For those seeking greater flexibility, the Freedom Plan may be a better fit. While this plan comes with higher premiums, it allows you to access out-of-network care at lower out-of-pocket costs compared to the Network Base Plan. However, services outside the network will still be more expensive than those provided by in-network dentists.

Both plans feature a lifetime deductible per covered person, which applies only to Type 2 (basic) and Type 3 (restorative) services. The deductible does not apply to orthodontic services.

The district’s dental plans do not allow duplicate coverage for dependents, including children and spouses.  Dependents can only be enrolled under one dental plan through the district to ensure streamlined benefits and compliance with plan guidelines.

The Importance of Preventive Dental Care

We encourage all employees to obtain regular oral exams and cleanings for several reasons.  Poor oral health can lead to conditions such as heart attacks and strokes.  Preventive dental visits can help identify conditions like oral cancer, which is treatable when detected early.

Preventive care services as defined by the plan and noted above will be covered 100%.
